What do the visionary insights and prophetic warnings of an ancient civilization have to do with a bizarre and unimaginably hilarious lead-up to the 2028 US Presidential Election?
This clever comedic satire is an irreverent look at society, politics, religion and spirituality full of laugh out loud characters, outrageous events and though-provoking humor.
Set in 2028, this first book in "The Book of Baker" series was initially published in the USA in 2004, and eerily foretold what might happen in the future. It is even more stunningly relevant today.
Sean Baker, an aspiring writer, discovers a mysterious manuscript from a sophisticated 100,000 year old civilization. Its visionary insights and prophetic warnings for the future inspire him to write “Dreams from the Death Age”, which becomes a best seller.
But in an increasingly violent, corrupt and chaotic world, its enlightened message is completely missed! To Sean’s horror “The Book” is revered by “Disciples” with an almost biblical fervour, and its ideas are cynically appropriated by Senator Ballsfield in a desperate bid to win the 2028 US Presidential election. By creating the Baker Academy for the Advancement of Humankind (BAAH), Ballsfield hopes to convince the jaded voters to elect him. But events dramatically spiral out-of-control with both hilarious and disastrous consequences.
Faced with an apocalyptic future, can humanity respond to the wake-up call? Or are our hearts, souls and strength of spirit truly lost?
Dreams from the Death Age (Book 1) and Armageddon (Book 2) are available now in paperback and Kindle. The third book, Genesis Revisited is yet to follow.
If you love a good laugh, a different way of thinking and have a wicked sense of humour then you will enjoy this book. If you take yourself too seriously or explode in self-righteous indignation when faced with irreverent humour around religion, politics or sex, then I suggest you buy the book for someone else! AFN Clarke.
Book length: 437 pages

This is a true satire - funny, colourful characters, crazy events and a totally irreverent look at politics, religion, spirituality, relationships... Thanks Clarke for a good read!
What a great book! It's very well written, funny, and makes you think. After reading this one, immediately purchased the second book, Armageddon, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Clarke’s intelligent and clever writing keeps you pondering how much truth is hidden in the story…
You are going to love reading this book because it is like seeing your political and social environment flash before your lives … There's a tinge of sadness in the humour which makes you think more deeply about the things you have just read and laughed about. Which of course is how good humour often works.
Just downloaded it yesterday and haven't been able to put it down. AFN Clarke does it again. "Dreams From The Death Age" is a must read. Also liked Clarke's "An Unquiet American" and "Contact”.
The characters are richly drawn, you will recognize yourself, your colleagues, bosses, the government, the tycoons and the buffoons, they are all represented. Yet Baker instils hope for the future, remorse for the present and memories of the past.
