Why About “Us”?

Well, it’s About “Us” because the “us” in this case is myself and my wife Krystyna. Just as it “takes a village to raise a child” it takes more than a writer to make a published author. Because we have both traveled extensively, lived in different countries, are intrigued by human behavior and why the world is the way it is - we end up in heated discussions on a range of topics that invariably find their way into the rich tapestry of themes and characters of my books.

My wife is my editor and chief critic. She puts up with my creative spirit (a nice way of saying she puts up with my ranting and raving) and keeps me on my toes. Together we work on all aspects of editing, formatting, website creation, marketing and getting books into the hands of book lovers around the world.

We hope you love reading them as much as we love producing them. Drop us a line and let us know.

Born in Hong Kong to British parents, I have lived in many different countries and worked in many fields – as a computer programmer; a designer, builder and driver of race cars; flying school owner; manager of a marine retail store; screenplay writer and novelist – as well as a bus conductor and a motor cycle courier in London (ah the joys of youth!).  In 1971, I joined Britain's elite Parachute Regiment as a Private, was commissioned as an officer a year later and I served for over seven years in Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Germany and with the French Airborne.

On leaving the Army, after two bloody tours in Northern Ireland - that left me without a large bowel - I started writing. My first book CONTACT about those tours in Northern Ireland in 1973 and 1976, was written in three emotional weeks, took two years to publish and became a huge best seller. It was serialized in a National Newspaper, made into an award winning BBC TV film in 1984, resulted in an offer from Kings Road Entertainment in Hollywood to work as their in house “script doctor”, and led to an expanded career as a screenwriter and novelist.

When I actually decided I wanted to be an author is difficult to tell.  Since the age of eight, books have always been my constant companions. John Buchan, Graham Greene, Ernest Hemingway, F Scott Fitzgerald, JP Donleavy, John Fowles and the Russian authors quickly became favorites. Interspersed amongst these more literary works, were Hammond Innes, Alastair McLean, John Le Carre and so on. Good writing is good writing, no matter what the genre or theme.

What do I write? Hopefully, books that entertain, stimulate and inform. Books that are controversial and different, that push the boundaries both in style and content and keep the reader intrigued, engaged and wanting more. It’s up to you to decide whether I have been successful. No risk no reward.

Being the wife of an author is a true adventure and I enjoy being part of the process of making Tony’s books a success and readily accessible to readers all over the world. Since I could first read, books have been my passion. I still can’t get to sleep without picking up a good book and being transported to another world. That and good music is enough to put a smile and a contented look on my face for many, many hours!  I hope we can put that smile on your face too.

I personally have always believed in the power of the creative spirit.  It’s uplifting, positive and what makes us human. Although a Social Work graduate, I have spent most of my life in business, education and the Arts. I’ve been the administrator of an opera company, and owner/manager of 3 language colleges in Australia.

For the last 20 years I have produced numerous seminars, symposiums and events involving well known personalities such as Robert Kiyosaki, John Denver, Mikhail Gorbachev, Jane Goodall, Kenny Loggins, Whoopi Goldberg, Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer and other renown presenters of our time.

I’ve produced and directed documentaries, worked on TV award shows and managed various education projects. I consider myself fortunate to be able to work from home, devote my time to Clarke-Books and enjoy life with my husband and family.
